The Women of Christ Many thanks to all the women who assisted with the worship services during the WELCA Thank Sunday on January 21, 2007. Particular thanks go to Diana Revell for giving the sermon at both services. It is usual for Diana to be thought-provoking and Spirit-filled, but I believe all of us who heard her message were particularly blessed. The special collection that was taken brought in $ 461.27 which will be sent to Chicago to Churchwide to assist with their ministries. Have you marked your calendar for the Annual WELCA Valentine Tea on February 18, 2007. And then did you add your name to the sign-up sheet on the WELCA bulletin? I certainly hope you answered yes to both those questions, as we very much want to enjoy your company! And we are sure you will enjoy the lunch and the special program that will be presented. Prayer partners from last year will be revealed and new prayer partners for 2007 will be drawn. Please bring a teacup (with or without a saucer) to exchange and soap for Lutheran World Relief. You may remember filling out a survey at the Thanksgiving dinner last November. The following comment was listed under the “weaknesses” section of the survey:
And this comment was under the “Strengths” section of the survey:
We agree – with both comments. So we are continuing with the tradition of the Valentine Tea, but are planning something a little different in conjunction with it. If you are able to devote a little extra time on the 21st, we hope that you will join us after the Valentine Tea is over when we will make visits to the shut-ins from our congregation. We will be bringing them a valentine card and a treat which hopefully will brighten their day. If enough people can participate we would be able to have several small groups each make one visit. Let’s share the Love!
REMEMBER TO MARK YOU
CALENDAR FOR: 2007 In-Kind Gifts Each year at the Synod convention In-Kind Donations are collected. The 2007 In-Kind Gifts we are asked to donate are hats, gloves, mittens, and scarves. Spring is coming! And when it does many stores will mark down prices on their winter items. That will be the perfect time for you to consider buying some – or maybe buying a bunch – of hats, gloves, mittens, and scarves. Or if you are crafty, you why not start making them. We will take all that you bring to convention and they will then be donated to the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind. AIDB serves children who range in age from 3 to 21 who are deaf, blind, or have multiple disabilities.
WOW! In response to the brief mention in the January Good
News article about quilts for LWR, Clara Chesebro has already made 2
quilts. And someone has left 12” fabric squares on the WELCA table. We
hope you will add to this collection of quilt squares – and will join us
later in the year when we get together to assemble them into quilts. |
